Anyone familiar with the YouTuber “rouga rabid”? Overhearing my roommate listening to a movie review and it sounds like he’s spouting a lot of right-wing shit in a partially veiled manner. 🙃

Not familiar: looking at the channel, it seems “immature” but no dogwhistles I can see off the bat. He has a supergirl review, that would probably be a good point to start looking further. If I get a chance and remember to, I’ll watch something and report what I notice

I’m gonna try and find the video he was watching earlier to listen to it properly. I just caught some shit about the border but wasn’t sure if it was a summation of the film or parroting RW nonsense.

Skimmed the supergirl video: I didnt notice any dogwhistles, his criticisms ranged from “good” to “pretty weak” but he didnt say anything misogynistic that I heard. I think it’s just his tone tbh. He sounds like every generic nostalgia critic knockoff who’s a fascist nut, but at least in this video, he’s just a mediocre reviewer.

The reason I chose “supergirl” is because it would be really easy to be a bigoted prick about this movie, which wasn’t very good (but was better than reviewers give it credit for, what who said that). His criticisms were framed well (which is notable because it’s a defined break from the right-wing critic-sphere). I think he missed some important stuff (regarding her history on earth, which was about 3 years long) but most critics did, so it’s not really a fair critique for me to make.

I won’t be watching him again, but best as I can tell from the limited sample, he seems to just be a small critic YouTuber with room to grow and lessons to learn. Perhaps he’ll get worse, but I doubt he’ll be a Shadiversity or a Critical Drinker.
