the american bittern is a type of heron well known for it’s camouflage abilities - hiding among reeds in marshes and swamps by stretching its neck and pointing its beak up. bitterns are so good at camouflaging themselves that even avid bird enthusiasts and researchers have an incredibly difficult time spotting them in the wild.
