Really silly question, but I've seen online people using pansexual lesbian which is sexual attraction and romantic attraction, I'm wondering is it always in this order? (Like sexual identity -> romantic identity?)

generally it’s more about which one is -sexual and which one is -romantic. just “pansexual” implies they’re also panromantic, but with dual labels (like pansexual lesbian), “pansexual” refers exclusively to sexual attraction. “lesbian” isnt -sexual or -romantic, so it refers to whichever attraction isnt specified (in this case, romantic attraction)

ime, general convention is romantic orientation->sexual orientation.

I feel like something makes the words sound weird otherwise?? Like lesbian pansexual feels weird

that’s why you’ll never hear someone say they’re a “pan lesbian” since neither is -romantic or -sexual. so it’s ambiguous and unhelpful as a label lol

I think it really depends since “a pansexual gay” sounds worse than the other way, but “pansexual lesbian” sounds better. it probs has to do with which our brain considers “more” of an adjective. “gay” is always an adjective, “lesbian”is often a noun, and “pansexual” can be either

but for stuff like “panromantic asexual,” it’s likely the community has just always done -romantic first and -sexual second. it’s how people generally do it, so that’s why it sounds better (even if both are right). kinda an Oxford comma deal

Okay so if lesbian is ambiguous as a -romantic, would using homoromantic work? I'm really curious on dual labels, do you have any good places to go to learn more?

frankly, I learned it mostly from other people since I’m a part of the aspec community, but the LGBTQI+ wiki on the split attraction model is a good starting point, at the least

also yes, in that case homoromantic would also be correct. it’s a bit clunkier which is why people use lesbian
