We need more trans physicians because it’s genuinely crazy how clueless so many doctors (even those who routinely work with lgbt and trans patients) are when interacting with us

It’s always so weird seeing a new practitioner and they’re so clueless and unaware about any of the medical impacts of transitioning

Adding to that- we need more openly lgbt+ teachers and stop seeing it as “too much” for kids to handle, or inappropriate. If it’s so inappropriate to discuss these things, straight teachers shouldn’t mention their partners either.

As a medical professional, I had one of my coworkers who is a PA, ask us all what pronouns our patients are and tried to see in the chart, ONLY bc she saw they were lesbians……….. it pissed me off at first how she would only check the pronouns bc they were lesbians, as if being gay means you’re trans too? Idk. It didn’t vibe right with me. But then I realized that she actually TRIED and that’s more than most Drsand PAs ever do… but I still think it’s hilarious and kinda wholesomely ignorant.

A bit of hopeful and happy information that things are getting better. It will take time before the lgbt educated providers get done with school and through their early stages of career so I see things getting dramatically better once they all start getting into those upper level positions all at once
