They were just used to very stereotypical southern folks being homophobic/transphobic, so they weren’t expecting a trans gay redneck who still “looked” the part (looked as in still looked like a redneck but also didn’t look like a trucker i think?) this was a couple years ago, I just remembered it last night and was laughing about it
