hey so this is actually a good thing in a time where corporations continue to fund and spread anti trans rhetoric! i hate capitalism too bud but 50% off transportation in a place where trans people are struggling to transport themselves is actually really amazing.

tbh I’d rather they do this than actively give money to people trying to kill us

i promise you they're doing that at the same time as they take money from the people they want dead

I don’t think I’ve seen anything about Lyft donating to any anti trans places, have they?

every tech company is giving money to whoever is in power. that's just the nature of silicon valley

and right now trans people are NOT in power. is it the best they could be doing? maybe not, but its a HELL of a LOT more than any other tech company. im trans in a red state and its scary out here. youre giving blue state realness which im here for but this is maybe not your moment to nitpick when there are worse corporations you could be going for like mcdonalds or target or uber (as lyfts rival) etc.

i just think the sole reason companies do this is for free marketing. they think it will make them more money than it will cost them. the company itself is not taking a moral or ethical stance. if it helps some trans people in kansas, that's good and i'm glad it does, but we shouldn't be out here saying it's so kind of them because it's all numbers on a balance sheet and we're being free advertising by talking about it.

I don’t think anyone here is saying that Lyft is the epitome of altruism. It’s just nice to see a spec of not evil in the corporate world tbh. And I’ll still take being profitable over killable any day.

advertising to trans people from kansas that there is a cheaper form of private transportation is not a bad thing. it is good to not trust corporations and to act like they care about the individual, but lyft, uber, any corporation is going to try to find a way to profit in any situation. a 50% discount is not for free marketing. i agree that a company has no morals, which is unfortunate, but this is an instance of a company that is going out of their way to help people who are in danger.
