
buying a book at a secondhand indicates “hey, people still want this stuff.” my local book store tracks what sells used and uses it to inform purchasing decisions (this is normal). used HP copies selling prompts them to buy new HP copies. that gives money to joanne. that is an example of how it works on a microeconomic scale. on the macro level, yeah WB tracks/estimates the secondary/privacy market when making business decisions.
