Why are lesbians always stereotyped as mean and bitter? :( It genuinely makes me so upset because my experience as a lesbian is so joyful. I love queer women and I love being a queer woman.

because a woman who wants nothing to do with men (who are often seen as authority in a patriarchal society) will automatically be labeled as mean as the default

oh I see it all the time unfortunately. Straight men push it a lot, but I also see it coming directly from the queer community as well (even queer women). Also in more subtle ways like when people headcanon characters as different sexualities, the mean female character is almost always headcanon-ed a lesbian while the nicer female characters are bi/pan/straight.
