as a lesbian, i wanted to ask this because i feel like there’s this stereotype that all dykes are masc/butch. for me, i like using the word “dyke” to describe myself, but i find myself both masc and femme (it kinda depends). is it okay for me to use this?

yes. pretty much all words used for the queer community have been slurs at some point. even recently, we can just look at how ppl have been throwing around "twink" when they mean a... cigarette (yikyak wont let me say it). its really about how you use it (in an uplifting way about yourself rather than an insult for others)

totally understandable! i don’t like using slurs in a negative connotation (or at all), but i wanted to ask if it was okay since the term is usually associated with a particular style

makes sense! i think dyke is often more aligned with being butch or at least masc, but like. in terms of who gets called that, it can be a bit like that meme about the butchest a woman can be before twitter users start getting sick and its taylor swift in a jersey and a full face of make-up. being queer is about blurring lines, not making up man & woman 2.0, so i think you can use whatever terms feel the most accurate to you (within reason obv, like if youre white dont say youre a stud 💀)

(also not the dislikes on the original comment lol. im just saying that if ppl are gonna throw around twink like theyre saying the f slur, they might as well say the slur and stop pretending they have the moral high ground/dont mean it in a homophobic and sexist way. like if youre gonna be homophobic at least commit lmao)
