I think it’s weird when people say Katseye has no white members, when Daniela is right there. Y’all understand that being Latina isn’t a race, right? She’s ethnically Cuban and Venezuelan, but racially she’s white.

True and also the whole convo of their being “no white members” is usually weird

Hispanic isn’t a race, it’s an ethnicity. Technically, she’s both Hispanic and Latina. Both Cuba and Venezuela are Spanish-speaking countries (meaning Hispanic) in Latin America (meaning Latino).

Wait please correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t she racially Hispanic (American race system) and ethnically white?

I mean race is a construct, same way East Asians, central Asians, SEA, Russians, MENA, south Asians and west Asians are considered the same race just for being from the same continent according it, doesn’t mean anyone would classify them as the same otherwise

Wait not to stray from ur point I was adding nuance and confused myself on specifics in this scenario

Still doesn’t change the way that Hispanic isn’t a race. Especially not in the “American race system.” In America Hispanic and Latino are ethnicities, not races. White is also not an ethnicity.

Agreed, I was just confused on the specifics in this scenario on the American construct that is race and how it’s often applied.

Oh it’s an odd way of categorizing ppl. I think the only time when it is truly necessary is when it comes to medical reasons.
