Hard to with mine since they have the only Jewish dorming in the country and have been extremely accommodating towards my picky eating habits, I think it really just depends on the school you go to but in my experience they are great people

We only have hillel but yes. They have never made me feel welcome so I have to celebrate holidays and shabbat by myself

I was forced into a conversation with the rabbis wife, the next thing I know I’ve been added to the group chat, and the only do they already text all the events in the chat at least three of them will text me privately asking… I haven’t gone to a single event and now they’re asking for donations

Leave the chat? They survive off donations. If you don’t want to then don’t

My Hillel really pretended to try to be “welcoming to all.” They’re super nice but just not genuine. They’d serve non kosher snacks and their events. If they just admitted they were focused on the reform crowd that’d be one thing, but they didn’t. This is not a knock at Hillel, but they just do not do a good job of being as all-inclusive as they claim

I completely agree. It’s just hard to want to go when the people who run it refuse to shake hands with you, literally, and no one wants to talk since everybody is watching reels

i feel bad, they’re nice but too much, plus most of us in the chat feel the same way and we have a small jewish community so we all are in all 3 groups

i’m sorry that you have that kind of hillel! even though ours tend to be more reform, our food is always kosher and we do have an orthodox member he just splits his time with us and chabad and personally i’m conservatives

I’m not saying that they’re not nice, they are nice! they’re just too much, I’ll be getting the messages from the chat (I didn’t ask to be a part of) telling me about the events and I’ll have like three different people asking me multiple times if I’m going privately

It def can be a lot, but it’s also kind of the staple of a Jewish community. Might be something taken for granted by someone not totally into it but I promise you it’s life changing for some people

I mean, this is just my personal experience. I’d imagine that it’s different for everyone, especially with those who don’t have a jewish community. The one at my school isn’t that big, which is why they keep texting me but we do have other jewish orgs
