i love this country bc of our freedom of speech, which has been consistently better than other countries. we have legalized gay marriage, have great innovation, and some of the best universities in the world. so no, i don’t like anti-americanism. but i do love our national parks, our rich culture, and our freedoms. i’m progressive because i want to keep those freedoms and expand them. i want m4a, better immigration policies, universal basic income.

loving america is not synonymous with loving every aspect of it. i’m deeply ashamed of our actions against indigenous people, central america, and in the pacific. we pollute our world a lot. that doesn’t mean i don’t love my country. i can criticize it up and down — and i do — but at the end of the day, i like the us!

our freedom of speech is so well defined that drug companies can advertise meds. they don’t do that elsewhere but it’s been upheld bc of freedom of speech. denying freedom of speech is so funny. gay marriage may get rolled back, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have it currently, and i’m really proud that we do! alexis de tocqueville described america as a country of choosers, of free association. that’s still true! and our culture— the super bowl, nba, olympics, college football. 1/2

our culture is so vast! nyc is so different from vermont to florida to louisiana to iowa to california. i do believe america is something to love, even when there are aspects of it that i deeply hate and criticize. those two things can be true at once

American culture is literally just settler colonialism, imperialism and white Christian nationalism We don’t have freedom of speech if you say anything that threatens the empire tho. our history shapes our present, but i don’t think it defines us. my past doesn’t define me. we’ve made legitimate progress in civil rights, especially before trump 2. and every state has culture, not just nyc or louisiana. american culture is hardly just “imperialism”

i feel like we’re going in circles. at the end of the day, people like hasan piker can get on twitch and make money from criticizing the president. that’s freedom of speech. you’re right, there is some censorship but i think you’re denying the fact that we have a free press, free assembly, and freedom of religion. maybe not the most free, but definitely not oppression

We’ve really made no progress, we just hide our bigotry and the government’s intentions better so that we don’t revolt. The US has the exact same goals as it did when it was founded. Protection and prosperity for an elite class only. Exploiting the rest of us for their benefit. Be that through slavery, racism, patriarchy, imperialism, couping other countries to exploit their resources and murder innocents And yeah ofc, I was just using your examples, I wasn’t going to list all 50 states 😭
