Zionism is a modern secular ideology, it’s not the same thing as the Jewish religious yearning for an end to exile (which involves more than just a physical return and follows the coming of the Messiah)

Your very premise is wrong. The mere existence of religious Zionism proves there’s more nuance than just “it’s a modern ideology.” It’s a modern movement with different ideological backings. But it is all rooted in the fundamental belief in the return to Jerusalem of the Jewish diaspora

Religious Zionism is also a modern ideology, and one that took shape only after political Zionism did. Initially when Zionism was starting, most Jewish religious institutions were pretty opposed to it We are in exile, not just physically displaced, the return is something that’s supposed to happen by divine will after we are redeemed, to do an ethnic cleansing in its name is sacrilegious, to say the least, and further delays our redemption

Religious Zionism can still be modern, but that refutes you calling it a secular ideology. What you just stated is not the opinion of religious Zionism, it’s the opinion of the specifically anti Zionist Satmer or Neturei Karta.
