all the people saying the jewish community got so right wing, it objectively did not. after Oct 7, some jews went further right and others further left. overall most are still center left. if you don’t see center left as left anymore, it’s bc you changed

The US political scale has been shifting right recently. People remaining at the center are moving right with it not to mention that they were already on the right on a global political scale

Jews are still mostly liberal or center left, but notably more Jews are right wing than were 5-10 years ago, that’s what people are commenting on

I mean it’s about perspective in this type of thing. Like what significant American figures do you consider to be center left?

I mean those people have kinda always been on college campuses too, I think some of them are a bit louder about it now thanks to the visibility online but it’s nothing new

Most are center *right. Left is anticapitalist

The us political center has shifted right but the Overton window has also broadened so there are further left voices in mainstream us politics than there have been in years so it’s. A little more complicated than that

Assuming you’re talking about Jews in the diaspora, because Jews in Israel have been getting increasingly far right for years now

I agree but I don’t think that changes what I said tbh

It doesn’t, I agree with you, I was just adding more nuance

People remaining at the center are “moving right” because only the left accuses every moderate of being a closeted right wing Nazi

Well it’s more so that a centrist position in this day and age with trump is kinda similar to being a European fence sitter in the 30s

What major US political figure are you claiming is represented by that place in this chart?

Online Leftist discourse. No political figure in particular

What you’re describing as politics moving to the left is you seeing people who have been here the whole time but now are getting amplified by social media because it amplifies anything polarizing. Most online leftist discourse isn’t even like that, but the stuff that gets served in the algorithms of people in the center or on the right is

If only that was all of it. I used to think that too until I actually started interacting with people on my college campus

Like I’ve interacted with some of those people too, but they’re still pretty fringe in broader society

Less and less. It’s less about the actual opinion and more about the labeling. People anywhere to the right of them they don’t care what you actually think. You are categorized by (a) Nazi (b) racist or (c) fascist. It’s been overstated and overused at this point but Kirk is the classic example now. Your average Joe on campus was unfazed; Oxford debate prez celebrated. It’s a problem

Having this attitude towards online leftist discourse is really productive in this day and age where we’re doing genocide in Gaza, bombing random in Venezuela, and deporting random Latinos to slave labor camps in a country they’ve never been to
