Apparently we stole the term “Semitic” even though we were forcefully labeled as such by German race scientists. Make it make sense

Semitic is a term that is derived from our bible

Which is especially ironic given the first recorded use of the term was in Greek bible translations to refer to the Jewish diaspora…

It just shows how confidently many people will make statements about Jews while just not being very knowledgeable about our history and traditions

i have this theory that people who grow up in Christian or Muslim influenced societies are implicitly taught that Jews really aren’t supposed to exist anymore (supercessionism). so when we ask for time/effort from them (like being curious about our traditions/history) they feel like we’re being presumptuous and they rationalize that by deciding there’s nothing to be curious about, either they already know or it doesn’t matter

From my experience a lot of Muslims I’ve known—in the US at least—seem a lot more curious and interested about Jewish traditions and religious stuff (I think partially to bond over being part of related minority religions) but are considerably less knowledgeable about Jewish history than they are about our religion When it comes to Muslim-majority countries I think it varies a lot. Morocco has a very different relationship to its Jewish diaspora then neighboring Algeria does, for example

yeah fair enough i think especially in the US it’s easy for Muslims and Jews to connect as we are both minorities. and you’re right it depends by country
