i have an israeli flag in bio bc my family is literally from there, and no one cares to ask my opinion on anything. they call me a terrorist and say i’m a jewish hater. they tell ppl not to be friends with me bc im jewish

I don’t really understand what people want Israelis to do. Say your family has lived there for 5 generations, you can’t say Israeli because people don’t like that. You also definitely can’t say Palestinian because that’s just not true. So what? You’re just nothing lol? Suddenly you have to refer to yourself 6 generations back? Idk I think simply calling yourself an Israeli shouldn’t put you in a political box. It’s rooted in anti semitism because no one thinks that way when you say

“I’m American” or “I’m South African.” It’s SPECIFICALLY Israel. Whether or not you are or are not against the actions of the Israeli government, there is something to be said about how people ONLY care when it’s Israel and not any other ‘settler colonial’ state

Anyway jsut a random thought of mine because one of my classes had a debate about calling oneself an “Israeli” and how this one person believe that using that title means you’re recognizing it as a valid and justified state. Which is just poor argument

Completely agree. I’m tired of people saying Jews are overreacting. People also say we need to chill when we see straight up Nazi rhetoric because “most people don’t think that.” I saw this on a post yesterday of someone saying Hitler wasn’t even that bad and when I responded someone said “it literally only has 9 upvotes.”

If it was a hate post about ANY other minority, saying “well it’s only 9 upvotes relax” would be a completely unacceptable comment. Jews don’t seem to have the same space as everyone else to air out grievances

Are they not your friend bc you're Jewish or bc you're a proud Israeli? There is a difference… To draw a parallel. I'm American but I'm not proud. The US is doing horrible things. I don't put an American flag in my bio because it is not worth being patriotic about. I'm not Israeli but I imagine if the world came to the conclusion that Israeli was committing gcide—which it has come to that conclusion—I would also not put an Israeli flag in my bio Why do you still have it there?
