God loves everyone but in the end when a person comes to face to God at the end of there life he will judge fairly, it’s is in the bible not to be gay, Leviticus 20 verse 13 “ “ ‘If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads. So even though you might say ohh Jesus ate dinner with the outcasts yes he did but to change there life towards Jesus and keep sinning,

I hate when ppl say “oh, being gay is a sin”. Cause first of all, it isn’t. And second of all, even if it was, Jesus would not turn them away. He literally would talk and have dinner with the outcasts of society at the time (prostitues, tax collectors, disabled). There is no stipulation to be loved by God, you just are

boy stfu 😭 trying to apply the Bible to modern society is a stupid prospect, in the same book that says “love the sinner” it also says a farmer should be stoned for planting two crops next to one another.

i can tell someone doesn’t read their bible… 1st the bible calls homosexuals an abomination to the Lord (God literally destroyed a whole city because of it), 2nd Jesus would go around with sinners because his goal was to deliverer them from sin. he would heal them from sickness or forgive them after they repented. Jesus wasn’t afraid to call people out for their sin (with love of course). God loves those that pursue him but “hates workers of inequity” (ppl who know their doing wrong)

it would be really beneficial to actually learn the bible if you are going to be speaking on it. leviticus 19:19 (the plant thing) is symbolism for not mixing jew and gentile (christian and worldly person) and no where does it say they should be stoned. next the bible does not state to love the sinner, it says in ephesians 5:11 to take no part in sin, but call it out. emphasizing that letting people live in sin is not love. next the bible warns not to hang around people who do evil

I wanna preference this by saying that I am a Catholic, not a Christian. I believe the major issue we will see with arguing is biblical interpretation. The bible is inherently vague because we can’t communicate with the people who wrote it. So we will see a different thing depending on what we look at. I look at it in the way the late and great pope Francis did. Homosexual people can and should be accepted into the church and shouldn’t be shunned. Who are we to say that they are lesser then us?

The Catholic stance on homosexuality is that it’s essentially a temptation. They believe it’s a sin to act on those temptations you can look it up.

They are still beloved children of God and are seen no differently. We should still treat them with respect no matter their sexuality

If they acted on the temptation of homosexuality they would be different in the sense they are happy they are committing a grave sin. Not saying no others sin. But you can’t say it’s okay

If you are Catholic a grave sin is not up for interpretation

catholicism IS an interpretation. just like every other denomination and every translation of the Bible. To say that grave sins (not a biblical concept btw) ((not to say i believe in sola scriptura, but it's food for thought)) aren't up for interpretation is just incorrect. God bless !!!!

I can debate you on any of this stuff. But it’s not up for interpretation by you it’s up for interpretation by the magisterium under guidance of the scripture. That’s why you can’t just sin and act like it doesn’t matter if you are catholic.

Okay actually since you want to talk about types of sin not being in the bible explain 1 John 5:16-17

again, any reading of the scripture is an interpretation. The magisterium interprets scripture. If i handed someone shakespeare with no clue who wrote it, when, why, what kind of text it was, no definitions of unknown words and phrases, and in its original old english, they would interpret it as best they could. this is similar.

Okay well you’d not really addressing the point. The point is it’s a sin to act on homosexuality because it’s a mortal sin. That guy who your talking for is catholic and he or she knows you don’t interpret scripture for yourself

it says "A" sin leads to death. which one? why? how? how did they decide which one? the only unforgivable sin mentioned in scripture is blasphemy against the holy spirit, aka, not believing

my point was simply that everyone "interprets". that's what reading is. to say that something "isn't up for interpretation" just doesn't make sense. That's all i was saying 🤷‍♀️

Unforgivable isn’t the same as mortal sin. They decide based on church tradition and interpretation of the Bible. But it’s the magisterium doing this. And they have the authority from Mathew 16:19

Sure i agree you just can’t really disagree with teaching on sins that lead to hell as a Catholic.

sure, all i was trying to do was point out the hypocrisy of it. They said it's not up for interpretation, and yet, it was interpreted by the magisterium. In the end, it was a group of people interpreting for the rest of the church, and they listened. And im not catholic, so naturally, i disagree with the idea of mortal and non mortal sins. Have a blessed day though!

i appreciate it! I am episcopalian, so we follow many many catholic teachings and traditions, but focusing more on specific teachings of Jesus. But ultimately we were founded on the catholic church, just with some differences in beliefs (imo, the reformation happened for a reason and we cannot and should not take one church as total authority because it leads to corruption). In the end though, we'll rejoice in heaven together :)

okay so the big bang did not come from nothing. so basically the whole universe was just super hot and condensed into a teeny space and then expanded and cooled super quickly, and is still expanding and cooling

if you are interested in how life was created just from different chemicals you should look into the miller-urey experiment it is so interesting and learning about it solidified for me that religion is not real. if you think it helps you live your life and wanna believe it then go ahead, but you cannot act like a book that has been proven false time and again is justification to judge other people for not following its arbitrary rules

okay so basically there was no space or time before the big bang so the question doesn’t really make sense. but it def happened! some special telescopes can still see the afterglow from it!! since when you look into space you are seeing things as they were millions of years ago since they are so far away that it takes the light that long to reach us

Yeah a lot of Christian’s don’t believe God just spawned people out of nowhere a lot believe in evolution as a sense of how God created people

So you don’t know

Anonymous replying to -> #4 1w

we don’t know that yet but there are theories like the big bounce. but other than that the “before” of it is difficult to comprehend cuz time didn’t exist yk? like from my understanding outside of other theories it was just “always” there but there’s no time frame for always or an answer what “created” that because time and space didn’t exist then and it was just randomness with particles

so you guys are just changing what you believe as you get actual scientific answers that don’t align with the bible?

the bible doesn’t support evolution! so by that logic you can change your beliefs to support and love gay people because there are also scientific explanations for that!

The bible doesn’t deny evolution. The bible is highly metaphorical especially in the early books. You could google the Catholic Church’s position on evolution. That’s also a false equivalency.

upvote 1 downvote

Anonymous replying to -> #8 1w

It’s not changing beliefs. It’s just understanding the process of how God created everything. Like I told you a second ago a Catholic priest proposed the big bang. Obviously that wouldn’t be against the Bible if he proposed it

upvote 1 downvote
default user profile icon
Anonymous replying to -> #4 1w

it’s not “believing” in it. like it is scientific fact that it happened. we don’t fully understand how the brain works, does that mean it’s not there? no! there is genuinely zero proof of god existing. we just aren’t caught up on all the science yet and it’s more comforting to believe that everything has a purpose and a plan. it’s like ancient greeks thinking that their gods were mad when the weather was bad. they just didn’t know what was going on scientifically yet

It mostly certainly is a sin. God also loves everyone, but he ask us to come to him and repent. Not that being gay is somehow worse (well… some would argue it is), but a gay person probably is proud of their sin. Repentance requires turning away from your sin, if a gay man repents, then he is no longer gay.
