OP on to something. Not a flex. You’re delusional if you think it is. Get a degree that will return your investment, not some stupid degree that you can’t make money with. 3 degrees are indeed useless if you can’t support yourself.

Hella bots in the comment section thinking it’s that easy to afford housing

It kinda is tbh. Living with parents that old is UNFORTUNATELY the norm in much of the world, including most of the US, now

We’re so cooked if people think earning degrees isn’t a “flex”. The anti intellectualism movement is scary 🫩🫩

Idk this girl but just a thought that maybe she had to take care of her family? Maybe she’s the only one that can care for her elderly parents?…. I’m graduating soon but ik I’ll be home for a while bc my family needs my support… it’s hard even for those with decades of experience and work…..

i agree w yall but honestly it depends on what she’s doing in the time she’s living at home. is she saving, i’m paying bills, does she have a job, is she going to get a good and reliable job from her degrees? if she can’t answer any of those with a yes than there would be an issue

I’m 21 and about to finish my second degree and I’d be genuinely embarrassed if I lived with my parents still… like how did she think that was a flex

What’s the point of having 3 degrees if you can’t even support yourself with them 😭

What degree CAN you support yourself with 🫠 and two years from now they'll be saying those are obsolete

Well good for you. "Literally just put effort into finding a job" if only it were actually that simple in most of the developed world. You realistically can't own a house here unless you inherit it. Even professional jobs don't pay enough to have a place to live.

Then get a job that pays better, if you wasted your money on a lesbian gender studies degree then you don’t get to complain about not being able to afford anything. You don’t deserve to afford anything if that’s the degree you choose.

It's not just "lesbian gender studies", it's people with EVERY degree that can hardly afford to support themselves in this economy because of the cost of housing.

Using an absolute in this conversation is a bad call. Literally no one with any amount of intelligence would agree with you that not a single person can comfortably support themselves. Get a USEFULL degree and the struggle dissipates

That’s not the point, it can’t be any more expensive than the resources and TIME on getting 3 stupid degrees.

Sure ig, but the thing is this happening with just one degree. You can have a phd in a field that is needed and still face homelessness, something that goes against the whole point of why someone would pursue higher education. So the idea of having more than one degree and being rewarded less/not at all is still something that is absurd and completely valid to be mad at

A degree is useless when it has no benefit to ones monetary success pretty self explanatory. Shouldn’t be going into immense debt/having parents pay for degrees withtout supporting you. Stop playing dumb you know exactly what I mean

im a biology major and no jobs want just an undergrad bio degree. They all want you to have your masters or your PhD in a more specific field. I’m getting a STEM degree and it’s essentially useless. 👍

And maybe she’s saving money by living at home. If her family home is chill and not chaotic that seems like the move tbh, why line some landlord’s pockets with a large chunk of your paycheck if you don’t have to

genuinely. after i graduate im moving back in with my parents for at LEAST a year to get a job and save up. it’s actually a great idea for people who get along with their family, as long as the situation is also financially feasible for the family as well.

It’s crazy that people let the economy (the elites) determine what is valuable. Yes it is important to consider the job market when choosing a degree, but we still need historians, artists, librarians, and other fields deemed “useless” by some. If an economy can’t sustain these fields, it is poorly constructed or failing

I took it as she was explaining why she still lives at home, because she has student loans to pay off. She wasn’t saying it was a flex, she was asking him to do the math lmao. Plus plenty of people live at home after college because they are in debt and can’t afford the cost of living. It’s important for us to try to put ourselves in other people’s shoes, because not everyone can pick themselves up by the bootstraps like you can :)

You agree with people getting degrees that they cannot use or apply anywhere in their lives? All the dehrees did was put her into debt and not help her get a better job or perform a task better in her life

Where did “getting a degree they cannot use or apply anywhere in their lives” come from. You’re inserting something that isn’t true. People can graduate from MEDICAL school, and still move back in to save money while they’re paying off their students loans. They eventually do get their return on investment, but that takes time even with amazing salaries. Just because someone doesnt immediately get paid 6+ figures to pay off their student loans doesn’t mean it isn’t a worthwhile career.

Welcome to America, degrees put people in debt. And it sucks. But we shouldn’t use that to shame people that aren’t rich who pursue fields like STEM that require higher degrees. If everyone listened to you and stopped getting PhDs because they put people into debt initially, we wouldn’t have people going into medicine to become doctors or scientists.

Because you have initial debt you’re still paying off?? The return on investment of a degree isn’t immediate.

There’s no way you are this fucking stupid😭 You have no idea what her job is. If she was a Starbucks barista, yeah, 3 degrees would be unnecessary. Now this is the difficult part, use your brain for a minute. Some jobs, like research scientists, medical doctors, etc, on average have 2+ degrees under their belt. They often have a bachelors degree, masters degree, and a PhD, that’s three degrees. So for a lot of important careers, it is necessary and usual to have that many degrees.
