Also if you don’t like being called that you can just say so without getting shitty about it like you know damn well people are just trying to be polite

For younger women (like 35 and under) I like to use Miss instead of ma’am. Ma’am seems to have some negative connotations to it. But I’ve never heard a dude be upset with being called sir

I often get called ma'am when I prefer sir so that’s a bit frustrating but it's usually just people trying to be respectful, idk why you'd get mad at the person if they didn’t know

I'm mostly of the opinion that the first time someone calls you something you don't want to be called, the burden is on you to politely tell them you don't want to be called that. Then if it happens again, the burden is on them to apologize and not do it again.

But you understand that it wasn’t supposed to be an insult, and that’s the difference between you and other people who get offended for no reason and don’t understand it’s just a sign of societal politeness and respect

Yeah I mean mistakes happen, I only ever get annoyed when people do it on purpose. When it happens I can just politely correct or smthn and then usually everything works out alright. I don’t know why anyone would get mad
