YES the way social media has generified what it means to be autistic irks me so bad. why are we fetishizing someone who doesn’t understand social cues

So many mental health terms watered down; stimming, overstimulated, and others I can't remember. It's annoying cuz it's a real condition had by real people. It's almost like saying "any cancerous baddies dtf??" - OP

THISS plus that TikTok mentality that you can self diagnose everything

the last line bugs me a bit it’s not “oh we shouldn’t fetishize someone who struggles with social cues” it’s “don’t fetishize someone’s disorders”

my school is full of ppl who were internet obsessed children who weren’t socialized by their parents. but ig not knowing social cues automatically makes someone autistic.(that’s not how diagnosis works and if so there’s another disorder for only lack of social cues and it doesn’t automatically make you neurodivergent either)

Like it’s one thing to say you have symptoms and seek out a diagnosis esp if it’s something more unlikely to diagnose due to health biases (Ik with AFABs an POC it’s harder to get an autism diagnoses) but DONT CLAIM TO HAVE IT 😭😭

i’m not at all saying that all people who lack social cues are autistic. you’re missing my argument here. it’s the fact that neurotypical people are finding autism “quirky” and “fun” and downscaling it to be something that’s attainable and attractive and something that someone should WANT to be when it in fact is not

I didn’t argue with you at all. But okay

i just find it strange that someone can be specifically attracted to those traits. i think it’s overall odd to fetishized neurodivergency but i was using a symptom as an example
