It is a fancy name for something everyone has used. Many people just don’t call em butter knives but simply knives

Are they from another country? I just moved in with a bunch of people from all over the world and we have different terminologies for different things.

be so fr bruh, it’s not even a “fancy” name anymore, it’s used so much it’s lost its meaning.

a knife is sharp, a butter knife is fairly dull. . . big difference ,, not really a fancy name, its the actual name for a completely different kind of blade

Yeah I wouldn’t say it’s a fancy name. It’s a necessary specification. When I hear “knife” I think of something sharp used to cut stuff, not a butter knife

I agree but the point I was trying to make is the roommate, more likely than not, knows what a butter knife is without using the terminology I personally am terrible with words and specifications as my brain merges things that are semantically close, so I can relate with said roomie
