Usually when I see this take it's a bit of a motte-bailey situation which is basically where there are two positions your statement could refer to. The one you're really getting at is more offensive/harder to defend, but when you're challenged, you resort back to the version that's harmless/easy to defend. Homophobes will agree with this take bc they see any gay person simply being openly themselves as "making it their whole personality", but if someone accuses you of homophobia (1/2)

for having this take then you can just say it's about a few bad apples who make the community look bad. Btw a dogwhistle is basically coded language, especially in a political and/or hateful context

But it is about the few people lmao. I’m literally a lesbian 💀💀💀 I actually wrote this specifically about my step cousin who pretended to be gay and trans for almost a year cos she thought it would upset everybody, and she made it literally her whole personality the whole time, and she recently transitioned back to being a girl and it pissed me off cos now I feel like they won’t take me seriously if I come out.
