I see it this way: when white people sing the n word in a song, they’re not doing that with the intention of being racist. They’re just singing a song that so happened to have a word in it that was historically weaponised by white people against black people to mock and demean us, but it still stings because of that historical context. It’s the same here. They’re not painting their faces black to mock black people, but it still stings due to that historical context.
Clearly.. I don’t get the obsession white people have with trying to piss us off. Cos in all honesty, when people say shit like #8 is doing, I kinda feel indifferent about it cos I find myself incapable of being offended by people who clearly aren’t all there mentally. I kinda feel bad cos he’s probably not going to get very far in life. 😕
I don’t think you realise this, but your opinion holds little to no value to anyone in this comment section. You kinda showed everyone that it holds no credibility when you came in here insulting people with the intent to offend instead of contributing to conversation. So you can say whatever you want. I’ll forget it tomorrow.
And I’m saying that in my opinion, it kinda feels too close to blackface for comfort. Whether you think so or not is up to you, but the fact of the matter is that you care more about being right than about how uncomfortable you’re making people, so you don’t see a problem with it. I don’t get why you’re so insistent that you’re offending everyone cos like I’ve said, you’re really not
If you would read at all, you’ll realise that hardly anything I’ve said was about white people. It was mostly about black people, and OUR feelings about stuff like this. Then YOU came in here and tried to make it about YOU. You could be fucking purple. Hell, if you were black, your opinion STILL wouldn’t matter to me, because you’ve proven to me that you as an individual are only trying to get on people’s nerves, which means nothing you’ve said is worth contributing to the conversation.
If you’d read further up a little bit, I said that I don’t believe these girls had racist intentions. It just feels very close to the blackface that is currently done to mock black people. I’m not talking about minstrel shows. I’m meaning the “blackface parties” that were incredibly popular at colleges in the 2010s. It just makes me uncomfortable.
I'd stop arguing dude they're just as racist telling ppl that bc they're not black they can't speak on the issue when by definition it's not blackface lol. They've established they aren't gonna change their mind even when proven wrong and start to insult you and act confused once you do prove em wrong anyway
And? The costume would have been complete without them coloring their faces black. You're telling me if everything was black and white besides their face, no one could tell what they were dressed up as? Any excuse to attack certain groups and then label them sensitive for responding appropriately, hmm?
Boo hoo. You’re upset because your attempt at ragebait was met with indifference. You can write out your opinions, they just don’t hold value. Not because you’re white you wannabe victim, but because you have demonstrated that you are not here to argue in good faith. Instead, you intend to shut down a discussion because it makes you uncomfortable. By all means, leave. It would be better for the quality of conversation that will take place from that point forward.
If they did then they’re really bad at doing in considering their eyes are not covered in paint, they lack the red lips, and they’re dressed like sheep. Your own insecurity and need to feel offended is overshadowing your critical thinking. You don’t know these people, you don’t know if they’re trying to be racist, they don’t know you and don’t need to conform to your own feelings. Let them dress like sheep it doesn’t hurt you
And once again, I don’t think anyone is offended. More so uncomfortable, because whether or not they knew what they were doing, it looks like blackface, and I as a black person would not feel comfortable around anyone who is okay with blatantly doing something they know could be interpreted as racist.
Modern black face does not require red lips and paint on the eyes. What do you think the intentions behind their actions are? You seem offended that I am willing to point out the truth. And since you decided to dodge a part of my previous statement, here are the “Halloween costumes” I was referring to. The obsession is real. 🙃
I think these girls knew they would upset people by painting their faces that way and did it anyway. They engaged in a practice that is known to be racist. I’ve compared it before to white people singing the n word in songs. It doesn’t offend me but it makes me extremely uncomfortable because it’s still wrong of them to say that word due to the fact that when white people use it, it’s normally to demean us. It’s the exact same thing here.
No but they also decided to post this on the internet too, if you’re gonna post something on the internet that’s problematic and offensive, you’re gonna receive backlash and criticism. Also, they’ve been on the internet long enough to know that other people have done the same and have also received backlash.
The N word is such a different thing entirely. If it’s got such a bad connotation than why is it still said by black people 24/7? Either nobody needs to say it because it’s a shitty word or it’s fair game for everyone. I don’t say it because I think it’s disrespectful just like every other curse word you could call someone. But dressing up as sheep isn’t disrespectful and it’s not mocking any race. Painting something in camo doesn’t make it military equipment you got me?
Black people can say the N word because they have reclaimed a word and turned it from something that has been used for oppression, hatred, and harm, into something that isn’t any of those, sometimes it’s used endearingly. Now, this does’t erase any of its history, but they’re allowed to do that because it’s been used on them. The act of reclaiming a slur is something only the targeted group can choose to do. Non-black people don’t share that same history with the word.
You’re proof that critical thinking is a rarity nowadays. Point to when I was comparing an EBT card to wool? Clearly, the focus of that picture is the black paint. You are highlighting the card in order to avoid the focus of this conversation. You’re not looking far into it because you are intellectually unable to, not because you don’t want to. Only an idiot would defend racism. Now why don’t you actually respond normally instead of being pathetic? Thank ya! ;)
