Or maybe you could have some decency and realizes calling someone a female is dehumanizing and makes it sound like someone is an object.

if you call women “females” i automatically assume you’re a misogynist bc the term was only popularized on social media after we stood ten toes behind called “bitches”. it’s a term only used in retaliation and carries the negative connotations of the word it was exchanged for bc of that.

Yeah, it’s most certainly used in a derogatory sense a lot of the time online. Not always, as there is utility to using “female” when you want to include both women and girls, but in that scenario it should be followed by “people” as to not come off as cold.

For the sake of argument, would you be okay if it went both ways (i.e. male and female)?

you’re so close yet completely missing the point. “females” is making the adjective the noun. removing the person part is dehumanizing. i was gonna try to explain this w your paint analogy but that can only get the noun/adjective part and not the bigger issue that is dehumanizing.

“Female“ can be an adjective, but not in the sense either of us mean it, if that’s what you care about

woman is a perfectly adequate and accurate way to describe people and a good way to avoid pissing us off while doing it. why is that so hard for you to understand

yes it is. and it’s the appropriate one to use here.

what #3 said. but if you REALLY need the grammar lesson too, here you go: “that is a female dog.” female is an adjective here. “that is a female.” female is an adjectival noun here and the context tells you that you’re talking about a dog. but if you hadn’t established that context, you’re essentially saying “that thing is a female”. now notice how a living animal became a thing? that’s kinda what calling women females is doing.

“popularized on social media” (within the context of use as a derogatory term, as is being discussed) you could try to pretend you’re not being ignorant

It’s not a derogatory term. I think that’s where the confusion here is like 90% of the time when guys said it’s not derogatory.

neanderthal is not a derogatory term. when i say “you’re a fucking neanderthal” then it’s derogatory bc that is how it was used. same thing for “females.” it’s used to DEGRADE WOMEN which makes it derogatory.

I understand the point but two things: 1. Calling a woman a “female” addresses them by their sex only. The word “female” makes no mention if this “female” you might be referring to is a human. Technically, “female” could be referring to, for example, a female animal, or a female bug. Therefore, it is dehumanizing 2. The term “female” has been used derogatorily in the past. That word carries a negative connotation and we MUST take that into consideration

bro said “it existed as a popular term way before social media” like he thought we believed the word “female” was solely a tiktok trend
