as a former fat kid with nutritional deficiencies and im fat phobic and proud if ur fat its cuz ur lazy period and dont gimme that shit talkin bout “i dont have time to workout or afford healthy food” i survive off eggs mostly and im dirt poor. getting in shape was the best decision i ever made in my life and i might be dead today if i never started so it really pisses me off when i see lazy people defending “fat phobia” cuz ur the only 1 who actually scared, scared of taking control of ur life

I’m pretty sure I’m considered “fat.”. But I also work out and muscle is heavier so even if I weigh more on the scale I’m still healthy. So what’s the problem with fat phobic people? Is it because you don’t seem them as attractive or because they are not healthy?

Im not scared of fat people but id never date someone fat or even so much as talk to them. I like to surround myself with attractive people who take care of themselves. If that makes me fatphobic then so be it

it’s icky seeing someone so big. And I pity them and How much they eat to stay at that size. OBVIOUSLY NOT IF YOU HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION. either way, I don’t say anything ofc. Those thoughts stay in my head

Possibly but there are levels to it. Our culture makes us see fat people as less attractive, which is fatphobic (see older cultures that thought fat women were beautiful). But you’re not actively doing anything wrong as long as you’re being respectful and treating everyone, including yourself, with dignity regardless of size or appearance. Although it’s always worth learning more about fatphobia and how it shapes much of our thinking today

Thermodynamics is just energy accounting and you have to actually pay attention to all the components. Energy in vs energy out is actually quite complicated in biological systems. Digestion and absorption is energy in, and there is a wide variety of how much people actually absorb of what they eat. Metabolism is energy out, and some people have greater metabolic rates than others. Please learn more if you’re going to speak on this topic

Some people are genuinely not able to restrict enough to lose weight due to their body adjusting its metabolism to hold onto every last calorie. Humans have a wide variety of metabolic functioning, and what works for you will not work for everybody. Again, please look into modern research on weight loss and metabolism, it’s actually quite complicated

The best thing we can all do is encourage healthy eating and exercise habits without shame or judgment. We should all be walking more, doing more cardio and resistance, eating more vegetables and fiber! But we also have to account for the fact that modern life in America makes this structurally difficult for vast swathes of the population (food deserts, car-dependent infrastructure, etc). Yes let’s push against the current but we also have to understand the root drivers of our unhealthiness

Well the only reason they thought fat people were beautiful was because it meant they came from wealth. Having more than enough to eat and being able to afford it. Therefore, more desirable

Low metabolism😭💀. That can be “changed”. Someone with more muscle will burn more calories at any time to maintain compared to someone with a high body fat.

Right, but that just goes to show how malleable our perception of beauty is depending on the culture. Our current culture is basically an inversion of what you described, because thinness is more accessible to the wealthy, therefore it is overly prized. In my opinion, the ideal culture would be one in which we’re able to see the beauty in many different forms

you gotta calibrate to ur bodies needs that doesn’t mean u cant try to get in shape or try to be healthy and ill never shame a fat person for trying to get healthy no matter what method they use thats like shaming a sick person at the doctor but making excuses for not taking action is the reason I have an issue with OPs post im certainly not disregarding those with metabolic abnormalities if anything its extra important for them to stay healthy

Right, you have to do what you can but not everyone can achieve a certain shape or size. A certain percentage of people genuinely cannot get down to what is generally considered a healthy weight range using healthy methods. But of course it’s still critical for them to exercise and eat healthy! At the same time, I don’t judge someone not doing that, because I also don’t judge those who are addicted to smoking, who don’t get enough sleep, who don’t eat enough, etc; judgment just doesn’t help
