Being a camp counselor or life guard shouldn't be treated as a "fun summer activity", it requires actual responsibility and is a JOB. Yeah it is a fun job, but it's so tiring when I'm the only one actually taking these kid's safely into consideration.

Again, I think you should have fun being a camp counselor because if you're not having fun, then the kids aren't either. But you have to think about safety. Today I was filling in for another camp and all of the other counselors got yelled at for sitting together in the shade when we should be spaced out along the perimeter. I love doing this, it's great work, but sometimes people forget that it is also childcare, and any form of childcare has a bunch of responsibilities.

Yeah I was a camp counselor for a few summers and I had quite a few coworkers who didn't take the kids' safety seriously. Parents send their kids to camp with the understanding are rules in place to prevent abuse and neglect, and I think it's really scummy to ignore those. Not to mention we had a lot of kids who had special needs and we were being trusted to provide the necessary care.

And you can debate whether it's fair to put college kids in charge of those things but they're still adults and it reflects poorly on their character if they don't do what they're being paid to do
