What American political policies is Catholicism against? I don’t think that America likes Protestants either-at least not now. I acknowledge that back in the day it was difficult to be Catholic, but it was also difficult to be Protestant. Both parties oppressed and harmed each other.
Catholicism is inherently anti-free market, where branches of Protestantism have taken on prosperity gospel that is a major influence of right wing propaganda. Don’t get me wrong there’s obviously wrong doings in the Catholic Church as a organization, but American politicians have used Evangelicalism and Pentecostalism as a method to weaponize the Christian faith and it’s used to disrupted Catholic countries. Look what’s happening to South America the past 50 years…
I would like to point out that the Protestants of 1600 did not include Pentecostalism or the modern Evangelicalism (the definition of Protestant is Christians who follow the Reformers) so therefore, these issues do not go back to the Puritans. The Puritans came to America because the English church was persecuting them. This is the same basic reason why other *real* Protestant groups came to America.
Just because some politicians weaponize Christianity (both Catholicism and Protestantism btw) does not mean that Christianity itself is the problem. I’m sure we would agree on that. I certainly believe that there are far more harmful ideologies, religions, and worldviews influencing the US and the world than Protestantism. Also, how is the Catholic Church anti-free market?
