censoring certain words like rape for example when talking about it by replacing with random words like 🍇takes away from the seriousness of it. While many people do this to avoid censorship, we should acknowledge that these topics shouldn’t be censored

A lot of my issue with the emoji style of censorship like in your example is while it exists because of platforms like TikTok too many people continue the pattern on other platforms like YikYak or even real life where such restrictions do not exist.

I agree, but there are also kids on some of these apps who are too young to learn about things like this

Fun fact researchers actually tested to see if censored vs uncensored posts got different viewership on tiktok and it didn’t. Posts with the words didn’t have any difference in reports, take down, or creator fund eligibility compared to posts that didn’t. TikTok is just a shitshow that randomly takes down ANYTHING and the people started self censoring for advertisers BY THEMSELVES

It’s a shame we have to censor ourselves because social media would rather use an overzealous ai to moderate posts than paying real humans with a concept of context

Yeah but a lot of the times the kids aren’t supposed to be there in the first place. There is something to be said about making content for the intended adult audience and letting what kids are exposed to be solely the parents’ responsibility.

Right. We can’t abolish child centric spaces, and force adult spaces to be child friendly since we got rid of the kid space

The reason we’re losing kid spaces in the first place is because they require effort on the parents’ side and some parents refuse to put effort into their kids.

That, and companies refuse to moderate kid spaces. They make MUCH more money when they don’t only allow, but actively support predators on their cite than when they actually take measures to protect children, moderate language, log suspicious activity, etc. I mean take Roblox for example. Cheaper for them to pay lawsuits to people who put them for supporting pedophiles than ban pedophiles
