Circumcision is genital mutilation and has no reason to be common practice outside of religious beliefs. Furthermore, parents should not be allowed to make decisions about a child’s body without the child’s consent.

My hot take is that it shouldn’t be allowed for religious reasons either. Human rights should trump religious beliefs. Always. If that child wants to get a circumcision when they’re older? Sure. But it’s completely unnecessary, nonconsensual, and can even kill the child.

It can make the penis easier to clean and slightly reduce the spread of stis, but these things can also be prevented by washing one’s penis regularly (as all penis-havers should), and using other prevention measures (condoms, etc). Medical organizations dont consider the benefits significant enough to universally recommend it. And I personally believe these benefits are not worth the loss of a natural organ that aids in sexual function, or the violation of bodily autonomy

of course, i do support circumcision in cases where it is medically necessary, such as phimosis

My cousin has phimosis and he’s 20, he told me about it the other day explaining that’s why he’s still a virgin. I’m pregnant with a boy and I’m terrified of the possibility of dooming my son with the same fate. I’ve never met a man who actually cares about having been circumcised, and the people who ARENT circumcised don’t seem to mind it other than being rejected by certain women or getting picked on in locker rooms. I don’t know what to do. Another worry is my son being old with dementia

And forgetting to clean it, or not showering very often so it gets dirty. Why go through that if you don’t have to? I’m not sure what to do. I don’t want my son to be old and in pain because of it
