Genuinely where in that discussion was I being racist? I didn’t even get a chance to respond to your last message, but here’s what I would’ve said: Racism is a pattern of prejudice and discrimination, not a single out-of-context sentence. That’s why I don’t see him as racist.

Calling me racist because I don’t think one sentence defines my partner is unfair. I take prejudice seriously, but I can also tell the difference between prejudice and a bad joke. If I ever thought he looked down upon people who come from different backgrounds than him, I wouldn’t be with him.

There is a difference between a thought that pops into someone’s head and a belief someone holds onto. It is funny to me to think about my boyfriend walking around and thinking anything along the lines of “all these sketchy Asians are around” because he would NEVER do something like that. It’s funny because it’s preposterous. The sentence he said at face value is bad. If I heard a stranger on the street say it, I would be mad at them. But I know my partner is sweet and he cares about Everybody.
