always always always check if a firearm is loaded by actually inspecting the chamber, never assume by its weight. and ALWAYS assume and treat the firearm as if it were loaded. and lock your ammo and firearms in separate safes

Locking ammo and guns in different safes is excessive imo. I don’t own a gun safe though I just leave my shit loaded in my bedroom but then again I don’t have small kids in my house

well age isn’t a factor imo. i grew up with mentally unstable people but one firearm in a safe location that is loaded for home defense is okay

Yeah but what I mean is everyone in my house is competent and isn’t going to doo anything unsafe with guns. I keep one revolver in my nightstand loaded and a full mag next to it bc I keep my AR mounted on the wall

always look directly down the barrel to see if it’s loaded

do you live in a particularly dangerous neighborhood? it seems wild to me to keep a loaded gun in your nightstand but i'm from an area without many guns generally so it may be a cultural difference i just dont get

my neighborhood isn’t particularly dangerous but the city i live near is and i also have some people that shouldn’t be near my house.

Oh no my house is in the middle of the woods, it’s just a loaded revolver takes up the same space as an unloaded one in my drawer so might as well have it ready to go

fair enough. you a hunter? (since middle of the woods lol)
