My maintenance is around 2200 Cal. I've been dieting at 1600 for a while and lost weight but I can see I'm also losing muscle despite high protein. How much should I up the cal for muscle training? My app keeps saying I should lower the cal

I would definitely up the calories a bit but i wanna note that carbs are important for muscle growth and maintenance so im thinking you might not be getting enough of carbs and/or the right types if you’re hitting your protein. and congrats on your weight loss!!!

it’s possible that you’re not actually losing muscle, but your body is using up the glycogen stores in your muscles and without replenishing it your muscles will look less full. however, weight loss often, if not always comes with at least a little bit of muscle loss. use your weights in the gym to determine how much muscle you might be losing. if you can still rep the same weights, you’re probably doing just fine.
