As someone who’s only ever been to the gym for the treadmills for a short amount of time but wants to go more for strength training, is there any important etiquette a beginner wouldn’t know?

If you go to planet fitness I’m pretty sure they have a little QR code on the machines or a chart that shows how to properly use them. The biggest etiquette rules are don’t be obnoxious, wipe off and put back equipment after you’re done using it, and don’t hog equipment you’re not using (not including taking rest periods between sets)

Don’t hog equipment. It’s okay to use and definitely take your time as you need it, but don’t take a high traffic item while sitting on your phone for 10 minutes between sets. Definitely wipe everything down. If you’re using plates, unload the bar when you’re finished and set everything back up how you found it. Aside from that, it’s just basic human etiquette. Be friendly and kind. Don’t be afraid to ask people for help, most would be more than willing to help. Good for you on starting up 😎

This may seem like a stupid question, but is it ok to go up to people who seem familiar with the place to ask for advice on how to use equipment? Can you ask for advice on workouts in general? I’m autistic so I struggle to recognize when things like this are appropriate or inappropriate, but exercise advice, in my experience, is easier to follow with someone there in person as opposed to a video or other guide online

Wiping down the equipment is a myth, you don’t actually have to do it
