It’s fun not everything has to be optimal

Bulks are actually still helpful, data still backs bulks but usually they’re just not done correctly, and they’re only beneficial when you have enough muscle that you use carbs efficiently enough to not store nearly as much as a normal person, so basically only work when you’re pretty endgame as far as the gym

Oh for sure I’m with u on that but even beyond just enjoying food it’s a lot more fun to lift in a surplus imo. U gain strength faster and tend to get better pumps and have more energy as long as u dont get too high bf

That’s my point tho, a surplus doesn’t necessarily lead to more hypertrophy than maintenance if training and protein are optimized. More calories can just mean more fat gain, and being endgame doesn’t change that. Also Beginners actually have more potential for muscle growth than advanced lifters, so why would bulking only work endgame? More muscle doesn’t mean less fat gain from a surplus.

Yea thats valid but u can usually get the same effect from carb maxxing. Alot of ppl overshoot their protein like a mf 😭

It’s not about muscle growth it’s about energy, more carbs means more energy (or more reps) which would in turn give more hyper trophy, the reason it only works when you have more muscle mass is because the less muscle you have the more likely carbs are going to be stored as fat rather than energy, muscle takes more energy to maintain which means that more carbs can be helpful for people with higher muscle mass

I see ur point but its not that linear More carbs can help fuel training, but that doesn’t mean more carbs automatically means more hypertrophy if you’re already eating enough. More muscle does mean more glycogen storage, but less muscle doesn’t mean carbs automatically get stored as fat. Beginners can use carbs efficiently too.

True, the only thing is once you get into a surplus of carbs, there’s only so much glycogen you can store with low muscle mass and you’re more likely to gain fat, I do agree with you on bulks being bad for earlier lifters but they can be helpful in controlled manors within higher level lifters

That’s fair, but glycogen storage isn’t the only factor. Once glycogen needs are met, extra carbs don’t automatically become fat, and fat gain depends more on your overall calorie surplus. I agree controlled surpluses can help advanced lifters, but I don’t think they’re uniquely beneficial to them. This post was more so targeted to the people that keep telling newbies they need to bulk yada yada yada actual sabotage bro 😭
