Decided to grow tf up and lower the weight and do better form for more reps than struggle for 5 reps with bad form and hurt my joints. Haven’t made progress in a year

You were just ego lifting

Make sure your increasing the weight every set though. You won’t see progress if you constantly using the same weight. First set i usually max out at 12 reps, increase weight then max out at 9 or 10 then increase and max out at 5 or 6

Low reps, high weight with normal form is the most "bang-for-your-buck" approach

Low reps and good technique are not mutually exclusive

i feel like there is no wrong way to lift honestly just lift heavy till you can’t lift it no more

Is this better than doing the opposite where you start with the heaviest and go lower with more reps

I’m not very sure. I’ve done it both ways and I personally like going lighter first than heavier because it’s easier to see my progression in strength and move up weight when I need to. If I’m maxing out on the last set at 6 one week and the next week I max out at 8 on the last set I know to move up weight a little next time

It’s called progressive overloading. You also don’t need to do it all in the same set but you shouldn’t be doing the same weight all the time you will see very little progress that way

Lol well it works for me. I went from benching 155 to 225 in a month. I was just suggesting it because op said they are not seeing progress and I was offering a way for them to have some structure in their workout and maybe see better results. If you don't thinks it's beneficial oh well🤷🏽‍♂️

OP didn’t say they are, they said that when they were do lowing reps + high weight they had bad form, so they’re lowering the weight to be able to work on it

Everyone body is different and may respond differently to different stimuli. Yes it’s not universally different but a person may find it better than a different technique

You can just use a rep range you do not have to make it this complicated
