Is it normal to feel like u can’t take a full breath after hitting chest?

Not really. What specifically do you mean. Like your physically incapable of fully breathing in or it hurts to breath all the way or your unable to catch your breath

Just across the front, mostly just hurts when I take too big of a breath

To me that sounds like you pulled or strained an intercostal. I would see a physician first to make sure that’s what happened but you should probably just take a short break from doing any chest movement for a week or so.

I mean it was my first time hitting chest so I can’t really tell if it’s just the typical muscle soreness after working out or if I did something wrong and accidentally hurt myself

Normal muscle soreness would not cause pain when you breath. In a weak you’ll be fine, just take some time and rest it. When you go to do bench again warm it up a bit by stretching your chest out very slowly. You may also have just moved a bit to quickly on the eccentric (down part) of your lifts so focus on taking everything a little slower and controlled
