Can anyone help me think of a better way to motivate myself to got to gym. I want to lose weight and I now want to become a firefighter( I am volunteer and want to go career). I am really struggling with getting myself up and going.

different take: stop relying on motivation. it is a fleeting emotional state just like happiness and sadness and there will always be days you are not motivated. what’s more important is action and consistency. go when you don’t want to. over time this will build discipline and eventually just become a habit

Set a time for it every day and don't work out when you get there. Just drive there and sit in the parking lot. Eventually you'll be sitting there one day say fuck it and go in, and then every time you go you'll go in

I’ve been committing to running every morning, and difficult cause it’s cold as hell. One day some dude at the trails was leaving when I was starting and I could tell he ran hard. I just assume everyday he’s there for hours before me (probably not) and if he can do that I can’t be a pussy.

A different take: what got me going to the gym was going every day, even if the time of day wasn’t consistent. Now I go 4 days a week (and climb for 2 additional), but when I was starting out overkill was the only thing that kept me going consistently

I also have adhd tho, and habit formation is notoriously difficult for us/me, so it’s kinda go big or go home always lol

not trying to be harsh!! just a reminder that you are not your thoughts and we can do things even when we don’t want to do them. that is ultimately what separates the great from the good

100% agree, I heard someone say dedication over motivation and it has been my mantra since
