For anyone who follows bodybuilding history - what do you think of Mike mentzer’s training style? He was an advocate of low volume training, “if you don’t rest enough you don’t grow enough”. And then Arnold came along in 1980 and beat him, even tho

Well for people with already great genetics and gear, any training style they choose will work well. Also, training with intensity with a decent amount of volume will give you 90% of your growth, so the nuances on what is optimal might not be as important as what someone enjoys.

And I think Arnold advocated for higher volume training…but by recommending that higher volume, was he trying to keep people small?

I’m biased since Mike was a family friend bur rest days are days fucking important and our bodies don’t grow muscle unless we properly take care of them. They both had/have phenomenal physiques, so I guess it depends on training styles

I think it’s a great methodology but in practice for natural lifters the volume isn’t high enough Mike was a genetic freak and the first person to ever score a perfect 300 he also used a variety of gear and other substances which meant he could train at such a severe level that the rest was warranted. But everyone is different and who knows you could be the next Mike so I would say try it seriously for 12-18 weeks and see if it works.
