I was in the same spot. When you're THAT unhealthy, you gotta kinda restructure your whole life. Hyper-focus on DIET. Get MyFitnessPal and start by tracking everything. Aim for at least 100g of protein per day, and little added sugar as possible (ideally none). Drink lots of water. Start meditating. Start your workouts with low weights and higher reps to master form, and slowly progressive overload. The feat of slowly being able to up the weights with perfect form gives you hella motivation

If you're malnourished, obviously you won't enjoy exercise. Actually, being malnourished can slow down or completely halt weight loss. Completely wreck your metabolism. Up the calories. Place faith in MyFitnessPal.

I used to be lethally anorexic btw 😭😂 turns out food IS your friend, and you need to EAT to get a hot bod and acquire strength

ngl i don’t want to work out to necessarily be hot, i just want to finally be happy with how my body looks. and yeah im kinda fighting with an ed rn :’) besides depression and lack of access to healthy foods (i live on a college campus) ive been starving myself to try and lose weight, bc its the only way ive ever been able to lose weight

and as for my unhealthiness, my main issues are the malnourishment and chronic pain. it’s hard to do anything strenuous when my joints want to rip out of their sockets

Yup I was always starving to lose weight before. But this is the very first time that I actually feel comfortable in my body, satisfied with it, AND proud of it! I eat over 2000cals/day now. With joint pain, GOOD nutrition will help. So will stretching. Your body has to get used to mobility. Exercise and nutrition will significantly help the pain, as counterintuitive as it seems. Start with some light warm up cardio and stretches. Put machines on the lowest weight you feel comfortable using and-

Just feel it out. Don't be hard on yourself at first. The first month is pm just an exploratory adventure for feeling out equipment and movements! You'll learn how to game the dining hall for as much proper nutrition as possible (chicken, veggies, fruits, yogurt, etc) I have bipolar I, I've suffered real bad most of my life. Fitness and proper nutrition is the only thing that's ever managed to really help me (yes, significantly more than meds and therapy). It's SO GOOD for mental health

Stop starving yourself, frfr. All that does is make you feel like shit, wreck your metabolism, kill your organs, and give you brain damage. Losing weight in healthy ways is actually easier than complete abstinence from food.

i haven’t had any luck losing weight any other way. i’ve only ever lost weight once, and it was because i didn’t have much access to food. i felt like absolute dogshit, but that was the ONLY time it worked. however i gained it back with a vengeance whenever i had access to food again

Exactly. You'll always gain it back or more through starvation. What else have you actually tried?

eating less (instead of barely at all) and being active

So WHAT you eat really matters. And the content of the activity matters too (just not AS much). Imma stress it again: MyFitnessPal!! Get it, log everything, take it seriously. Start at 1300-1400cals (deficit). In the gym do warm up cardio, then strength training, then post-cardio. After a few months of consistency, bump up the calories to maintenance. MAX protein, as little added sugar as possible. With a lot of fitness, most or all protein consumed just goes straight to muscle building.

So you don't gotta worry about gaining or maintaining fat

sadly i don’t have access to a variety of healthy foods, living on a college campus. i don’t even have a kitchen nor the time to cook meals. and groceries are far too expensive for me rn. i’ve been eating a lot of salads, but ofc that doesn’t give me everything i need. id love to be more active in ways that don’t make me feel worse, but sadly most of my day is spent sitting in class or at a computer working on projects

the only sources of protein campus dining has is often undercooked or fried (burgers, bacon). i’ve gotten sick off the meat multiple times and i’m really really tired of greasy foods 🫩 just to stay bulked up the school athletes often just have to eat two burgers per meal

Dining halls all SUCK. But. All dining halls have chicken, broccoli, yogurt, blueberries, etc! That's the good stuff! I assure you, the athletes are also consuming protein powders and stuff. A tub of protein powder is like $25-35 and it'll last you like 2 months! You can also cop a part time job to give you some food funds

i don’t have a car rn to get to a job 🫩 also the dining hall at my university is famous for giving people food poisoning from undercooking the chicken. most of the time it’s fried chicken as well. the broccoli is never cooked right, and the “fresh” fruit also makes people sick. i do have yogurt with granola occasionally though
