Fast metabolism isn’t really a thing, people just fidget more and have higher NEAT or have higher muscle mass. I hear your frustration though, the hard part for most short people is how quickly they reach a surplus beyond what’s needed to gain muscle. Although the “good news” is shorter people actually have an easier time filling out their frame and looking more visually muscular than taller people since their muscle is packed into a shorter area.
i was a gymnast for 15+ years (not a very good one, but still lol) so i have a pretty decent amount of muscle. I’ve lost some of it due to eating disorders and chronic dieting and fun stuff like that, but it’s definitely still there, just less bulky then it used to be. That being said, it makes me nervous to build more muscle because when i had more muscle it didn’t look like muscle. it looked like fat… if that makes sense? like, i don’t get lean muscle. i get bulky muscle
Bulky vs lean muscle is the same thing, one is just under a layer of fat. I was a gymnast too and the muscle made it easy for me to build. I was suffering from AFRID at the time I started and was a competitive cheerleader. As soon as I increased my protein I was gaining muscle yet still was losing (not on purpose)
I read what you commented about feeling bulky versus muscular, and for the aesthetic element of that what I would suggest other than prioritizing protein and progressive overload training ofc is just being very strict about tracking calories and only eating 200-300 more than your maintenance. Basically it’s just very easy to accidentally eat in a large surplus vs a small one for a lean bulk which it sounds like your aesthetic goal aligns with.
