is it okay to only work the same muscle group? right now i'm really focused on doing glutes and cardio but if overworking that muscle is counterproductive then i'll switch it up!

No. If you want muscle to grow you have to give it time to rest. You also want overall good muscles/physique, so it’s important to work the whole body- not just glutes and cardio
