I have really bad depression and instead of turning to alcohol I just started the gym to release my emotions!

I also have the fear of being judged but you have to remember that people who go to the gym are there for the same reason you are make friends with some people that you can work out with! It’s rough starting out but I promise once you get in the groove it pays off so well! Something that helped me too was I wore baggy clothes starting out because I was self conscious but now I’ve gotten to the point I don’t care what people think! You got this, stay strong! 💖

Just bring headphones, don’t be scared to ask for help, start with light weights. Don’t get a 40lb dumbbell when yk you can’t lift it. Start light and if you’re able to do 12 reps easily, go up by 2.5-5lbs and start again. Really focus on squeezing the muscles when you contract. And tbh act like yk what you’re doing. People don’t pay attention to you unless they’re scared for your safety

Most of the time when I either start at a new gym or am like getting back into it, my first few sessions are getting a lay of the land, developing a routine, and establishing a baseline. So don’t worry if your first few sessions aren’t super “productive” yk

yes. your weights should feel heavy for you and you should fail towards the end of your last set if possible.

My rule of thumb is 3 sets of 4-6. If you can do more reps than that in a set it’s not heavy enough!!
