If you find a buddy to go with, it can be really helpful :) I’d also recommend going in with a specific plan rather than looking around when you get there (ofc you can peep the machines, it just helps with nerves to know what your plan is) Also most people don’t care at all about new people and usually can’t tell. And if you need to ask about something ppl are often happy to help

If you want someone to talk to I'm here! I used to feel the same way for YEARS but now I'm confident going myself :)

lowk no one is actually paying attention to other people. everyone is there to better themselves, not to judge ppl at the gym. do what you want. don’t worry about what other people are doing (unless you want inspo 😛)

I don’t know anything about the gym culture, what exercises to do or machines to use or what clothes to wear and it’s lowkey such a huge hurdle I’m not even sure where to start

That’s ok, everyone was new at one point. Honestly for clothes, I usually wear windbreaker suits, but that’s just me personally.

okay. do a little research online and pick a program. make sure it fits your goals (strength, hypertrophy) and how often you can go per week. look up YouTube videos of the form for every exercise. your first time, just figure out what weight to use (you should get within 1-2 reps of failure) and write it down. wear comfortable exercise clothes--shorts or sweatpants or leggings and a t shirt are pretty standard. bring headphones and play your own music. take it one step at a time, you got this
