since 1) I often see people asking for music recs in here and 2) a lot of my favorite music starts to feel seasonally inappropriate right around now, I’m thinking I’ll start up an informal series of “songs for goths to listen to on warm sunny days”

My personal strategy as a goth is to simply thaw out into a ska guy during Spring and Summer lmao

I’m gonna cast a rather wide net here genre-wise—do note that I’m not necessarily labeling every song as “Goth Music” in the strictest sense so much as I am calling it, idk, “goth-friendly” either way, since everyone’s taste varies somewhat, please feel free to make this a collaborative thing and quote-post with songs you find yourself enjoying the most during spring or summer

oh also just bumping HELLA B-52s, because the B-52s are not goth, but I’ve also never met a goth who didn’t love them anyways

excellent, I respect it. I feel pretty strongly that reggae and ska don’t get enough attention within Thee Subculture for the extent of their influence on several areas of goth-y music… easy enough to connect the dots re: punk ska and whatnot, but then for instance She’s In Parties by Bauhaus is a classic reggae-style bass line, Skinny Puppy was known to release “dub versions”, and ofc KMFDM’s third album UAIOE was full-blown reggae x industrial rock fusion

definitely planning on posting at least a couple of “goth reggae”-type tracks over the coming month, keep an eye out if you enjoy that type of thing 🫡

Did you know that Peter Hook from Joy Division and New Order actually spent a lot of his childhood in Jamaica?

Yeah, I read his memoir about Joy Division because Joy Division is my favorite band of all time, and in the brief chapter on his time before the band he talks about growing up in Jamaica because his dad got a job down there. Peter Hook being the bassist of Joy Division, and both the bassist and lead singer of New Order
