This is natural and common in even newborn fawns. The moms hide them, they have some sort of instinct to stay put, and the mom will go graze: it could be hours or almost all day, but the fan just chills there and the mom comes back. (Also, if you ever see a fawn like this, DO NOT TOUCH THEM! If they smell like a human their mom may reject them and abandon them to die.)

The moms can be gone a WHILE, more than people often expect an animal to be away from their baby. As long as anyone who came across it didn’t touch it (moms will often reject the fawn if it smells different/like a human), mom will be back.
