Acting like Snow White is off limits? Come on now We all think of Snow White as an adult

Sexy costumes almost always look so cringe, like too try hard if that makes sense? But especially young characters, like princesses considering how young so many of them are. Like why? You’re that desperate to show something? You can’t just dress up in leather and call it a day lol

i think there's more nuance here and at the same time it's completely random. sexy school girl? weird maybe a cancelable offense... i guess. i wouldn't wear that. sexy dora? fine by me but toeing the line. sexy lava girl is fine. sexy powerpuff girl and strawberry short cake also fine.

Also part of the reason people do this is because it’s not OUR fault that the creators decided that these characters are underraged Power Puff Girls are awesome so people want to dress up as them. It’s not THAT deep

There’s nothing wrong with dressing up like the power puff girls but it is weird that ppl dress like sexy versions of them. There’s so many adult characters that you could dress as sexy versions of, it’s extremely weird to do that with characters that are supposed to be children

children are allowed to have representation of themselves that aren’t sexual. If you want to be a kickass sexy superheroine, marvel and dc have PLENTY. Snow White is THE YOUNGEST Disney princess and the most vulnerable; why would you WANT to dress up as the picture of innocence? I don’t want to perpetuate purity culture but we need to have discernment. If you type ppg costume into Pinterest you see sexy costumes bc of ppl like you

It’s not that it’s a sexy version of power puff girls It’s because everything looks “sexy” if you are an adult. If you have big boobs it’s going to look like a “sexy costume” because you’re an adult Also THERE WAS an episode of power puff girls where they became “sexy school girls” too Look it up

You do realize the original story was written in 1812 and was FUCKED UP right? She was 7 years old in the original, and the prince kissed her, then he married her If you look it up, they say “she was sleeping for a long long time” to excuse what happened because they say she became older when he kissed her Again it’s not MY fault that the original story is so fucked up. That doesn’t ALL of us have to stop dressing as Snow White just because of the stupid original 1812 version

You're going completely off topic here. Any character who is a CHILD in its story, should not have a sexy costume made of the character. I'm talking about costumes that are literally MARKETED as "sexy ____" -- not costumes that are accurate cosplay and look sexier bc of the body type they're on, be serious dude.

The point is going completely over your head here. I'm convinced you can't read at this point. I said ACCURATE COSPLAY, meaning the dress she wears IN THE MOVIE, is OKAY. A sexy version, such as a corset and short skirt, is NOT okay. Snow white IS 14 in the disney version which was made in 1937. Sleeping beauty is 16 in the disney version. Belle is 17 in the disney version. You being "uncomfortable" with their ages being so young doesn't change the fact that they ARE child characters.

omg you’re so fucking weird. Don’t sexualize child characters period. This shouldn’t be a controversial take? Who cares if the story is fucked up? Even more reason to not dress as a 7 year old! Ada from resident evil and lady from DMC has the same color palette, both adults! Dress sexy! Be free! Don’t sexualize characters that are canonically children. If you want to wear snow whites ACTUAL outfit, with an ankle length dress, go right a fucking head. Weirdo.

I’m not gonna go back and forth because I don’t think you coming to the conversation in good faith. Dressing as sexualized child characters is weird idgaf. And I don’t agree that things inherently look sexy if you’re an adult. I’ve seen look dress as characters who are young and they don’t look sexual at all because the focus is on looking accurate to the character, not being sexy

The Disney movies ALREADY sexualized the characters. Disney ALREADY focused on their looks to make them “look attractive” You think people dont call Disney Princesses attractive?! No one today knows their ages. You dont need to wear a “short skirt and corset” to be sexualized. You dont get to decide what clothes counts as sexualized that’s NOT how this works

The point is Disney ALREADY focused on their looks. Makeup, the dress and the whole look DOES make them look good, they look like adults in the movies WHY do you think that if you cosplay as the characters in the original movie that “doesn’t count as sexual”? The movie clearly sexualized them first. Disney and the movie makers are not saints. They focused on the looks of the princesses to make then attractive

I hate to break it to you but most people know their ages. Just because YOU don't doesn't mean other people don't 💀. How tf did Disney sexualize the princesses? They're all fully covered and never say or do anything sexually suggestive. Some of their ages are literally mentioned IN THE MOVIES too btw. Sleeping beauty for example, her age is IN THE MOVIE. You're fighting freakishly hard to dress as a sexualized child..😬

“How tf did Disney sexual the princesses?” Have you NEVER taken feminist media criticism before?? The MEDIA sexualizes women and Disney DEFINITELY did that Take Belle for example. Her NAME literally means “beautiful.” That means attractive in French. You say “Elle est tellement belle” (Belle!) in French when you say she’s so beautiful/hot If you seriously think just because they’re wearing dresses that they “can’t be sexualized” then that’s just your MODERN view of what clothes = hot

You literally said “she can’t be sexualized because she isn’t wearing a skirt/corset”??? That’s not what SEXUALIZED means. You can be sexualized in full clothing. A character on TV dont need to be dressed in “revealing clothes” for the movie creators to sexualize her. Huge eyes, VERY white/pale skin (racist beauty standards), tiny waists, small wrists, very skinny, really exaggerated curves - they sexualized the Disney princesses

Dude there are names that literally mean shit like "ugly" -- that doesn't mean their parents thought they were ugly. You're saying that belle is sexualized ONLY bc her name has another meaning? Interesting 🤨

No I said the Disney princesses are sexualized by the media And the names you CHOOSE to give characters is part of media criticism. The author CHOSE the name Belle It’s literally called “Beauty and the Beast” because HER NAME is “Beauty.” The NAME of the 1740 story was French: La Belle et la Bête (see her name Belle)

Literally not what I said. I said they aren't wearing anything sexual or acting sexual in the movie. The media sexualizing them doesn't mean everyone should. They are CHILD characters. You want to dress up as snow white? The wear the outfit she wears in the movie. Want to show more skin? Choose an adult character whose outfit reflects that. It's not rocket science.

I find it HILARIOUS that you think media criticism of the sexualization of women and objectification of women DOESN’T include how Disney depicted its princesses in movies What is that a sacred cow for you? OF COURSE men who made the movies in the 1930s to 1990s (AND modern day) would sexualize the characters. We live in a patriarchy so that should be obvious They dont ONLY become “sexual” when they wear a short skirt. Thats REALLY weird to say

What you're describing, tiny waist etc, are beauty standards. Not sexualization. Those are two completely different things. Beauty standards are traits that a majority of people associate with someone who is considered pretty. Sexualization is the implication that the person is doing something that could be considered sexual in nature whether through clothes, behavior, or word choice. The princesses comply to beauty standards. They are not sexualized.

“The media sexualizing them doesn’t mean everyone should” If you say “dressing them how the movie had them look is fine,” then you ARE excusing the movie. You’re saying someone staying faithful to the movie “doesn’t count” as sexualizing (even though the movie DID sexualize them!) Meanwhile me wearing a short skirt with it, you act like it’s night and day. No it’s not. The characters were sexualized FROM THE BEGINNING. Adding a short skirt or being creative with it doesn’t change that

Showing more skin is NOT what sexualizing means in feminist media criticism.

It's toxic to adhere to beauty standards but it doesn't mean they're sexualized. A family member saying a toddler for example is "pretty" doesn't mean they are sexualizing the child. You can be pretty without being sexualized. Such as the princesses. They adhere to beauty standards but Disney does not sexualize them.

Sexualization was definitely present IN ADDITION TO adherence to beauty standards. For example, ALL of the Disney princesses reinforce the gender norm that women are prizes for men. They are sexually objectified as characters whose appearance is FOR men. They are also depicted as passive, weak, submissive compared to the stronger male characters. The idea that they aren’t sexualized because they aren’t showing modern day levels of skin is ridiculous

So your excuse for dressing as a sexy snow white is because Disney sexualized the child princess first so therefore it's okay if you do too? Interesting.. Also I mentioned more ways other than showing skin -- was just an example that you are apparently stuck on to the point of not grasping the full conversation.

Nope YOU said adding a short skirt / corset would MAKE it sexual. So YOU are the one acting like a short skirt / corset BY ITSELF makes it sexual. I dont agree with you that me choosing to dress this way is “sexualizing” them ANY MORE than they already were

I already said what I said. There is NO DIFFERENCE in how sexualized it is because the original was ALREADY sexualized. You are literally just telling women that they can’t show skin. wearing the “classic” princess outfit and wearing those makes no difference And we aren’t sexualizing any more than you are when you wear the full length dress. Yours is ALREADY sexualized
