people that are anti-glasses make me so irrationally mad. like why are you needlessly against seeing??????? “i don’t like how i look with glasses” so you’d rather be blind???????????

We grew up watching movies where the “ugly” protagonist gets a makeover by wearing contacts and straightening their hair

i’m sorry i just genuinely despise how i look with glasses 😭 i’ve tried every kind of frame and i hate them all. i’m not blind without them it’s just a little harder to see small things far away. they’re infuriating to wear especially if you get overstimulated easily and i always grew up around tv (and real people some times) that sees glasses as ugly or nerdy and therefore an acceptable reason to bully someone.

I mainly wear my glasses to drive and sometimes see the board in class, so yeah, I will go whole days without wearing them. It goes beyond a “Disney girl taking off her glasses at the end of a movie,” though. Throughout many media and real life environments, you won’t escape the (irrational, yes) idea that things like glasses, braces, etc. are deemed less “beautiful.” And it’s silly, but it really does affect you, especially when you already struggle with insecurities about your appearance 🤷‍♀️

I want to emphasize that I know this way of thinking is irrational, but it’s unfortunately one that is very hard to escape from

i feel this on a molecular level, i’ve always been really insecure about the way that i look and even though i know it shouldn’t matter and that they are literally just a tool to help me see, when someone says “omg you look so cute without glasses!” those kinds of things stick with you. on top of them being uncomfortable, they make me feel awful. yes it’s irrational, but it’s more than just not liking how they look on you. it’s been years in the making.
