So thankful to be apart of a religion that encourages questioning everything even the existence of god. Some religions look down upon believers who question anything in their holy book, let alone the existence of god. Not being able to question your beliefs without being punished for it is lowkey cult like

Fr this idea that worldly desires that don’t harm anyone are evil and punishable by eternal damnation is so absurd to me. So someone can go on a killing spree, repent and be granted paradise but a person who lives their life helping people can burn for eternity bc they don’t believe in a god or picked the wrong one to believe in?? Twisted shit

EXACTLY!!!!!! I don’t do religion because it condemns the wrong shit. And by being a woman or non gender conforming apparently you are bad?! I feel bad for women who are socialized to feel inferior just because of some ā€œholy bookā€ meant to enforce the patriarchy

My friend is ex Muslim. She said it’s incredibly damaging to women and artificially restrictive. There’s a reason why religion tends to weave trauma especially for girls.

Not saying my religion/community is perfect, bc it’s far from that. But I genuinely believe questioning stuff like that is sooooo important

I’m jewish an in our culture it’s pretty normal and often encouraged by religious leaders to question everything, even stuff in the Torah

Girlllll even WITH the questioning, Judaism has many problematic practices that Islam literally adopted 😭😭 I’m actually so over Christians and Jewish ppl tryna pull out the ā€œwell actually ā˜šŸ¼ā€œ like does your religion not consider a woman impure for a longer period of time when she gives birth to a girl over a son?? You can word it however you want or distance yourself from orthodoxy but I call bs when liberal Muslims do it and same with Christians and Jews. The teachings are inherently flawed

Exactlyyyyy. It feels soo motivated in the patriarchy… it’s like no I don’t agree that women are lesser than. HAVE YOU SEEN A GIRL WORK ANYWAY? Countries with women leaders are generally happier anyway and you say women aren’t built for leadership. Patriarchy my ass.

I literally said that Judaism isn’t perfect 😭 I just like how you can question shi šŸ’€āœŒļø

I can appreciate if your practice is more so spiritual but genuinely how do you disentangle any progressive beliefs you may have from the religion as it was conceived? Maybe Judaism does have more leeway with this sort of personal / sect-based interpretation but I’ve always learned religion as rigid and perfect. That it’s humans who try to ā€œsoftenā€ it but that’s not how it was intended

But that wasn’t our criticism of Islam 😭 we were talking abt the misogyny not the ability to question from the start lol. A lot of us aren’t even questioning anymore, we’re out

All I’m saying is that being able to question shi like that would probably allow people to question specific practices that can be seen as misogynistic/cult like/etc. and think for themselves

You’re such a rational individual I adore you 😭 bc the hoops and justifications and championing of good parts of religion some ppl are doing is giving me a headache. Like hey! We can have all that good morality and treatment of other ppl without subjugating women! Without telling preteen girls to cover up or be labeled as whores! Without stigmatizing and killing queer folks! All wonderful, wonderful things we’re doing rn no thanks to patriarchal ass religions šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

I’ve always grown up understanding you just can’t beat women in roles involving taking care of people— and that’s what government is. If women create life, you’d think logically they’d be the best as maintaining it. This is why the world is failing. Guys have to create systems to hurt women cuz they don’t have enough raw talent to prove themselves otherwise. I hope girls start to wake up to this earlier and earlier

Sure but what happens after the questioning? Islam has the same approach of ā€œit’s okay to have doubt, ask a sheikh or scholar.ā€ A person does that. But they won’t bend or change the rules. The rules will still apply. You just might come across wording that makes you feel better. Again, I can’t comment on Judaism but thousands of years of rabbis and religious scholars who’ve questioned the Torah: how come they follow the same practices? What end result is brought about?

… they don’t follow the same practices? Judaism varies wildly depending on each community, synagogue, and individual. And like I said it’s not perfect nor have I ever said it was.
