How do I get my parents to accept that I am no longer a Christian. It is actually driving my insane and I feel like I can’t talk to them because everything is made to be about that. Life struggles? Pray to God. Something good? Thank God? Sad? Find God.

tbh, just ignore it. theyre religious and you’re not, and it’s just something you have to accept. they’re your parents they’re probably not gonna be super open to your atheism, but it’s not really a big deal

For example I said no to praying at dinner and they spent ten minutes trying to convince me to pray and then spent half of dinner talking about how sad it is that I no longer follow God. It’s like this all the time and basically impossible to ignore

I can be talking about how much I love my favorite singer and it’ll turn into “it’s a shame you don’t love God” and a 20 minute spiel about it

It’s just a shame bc when I was a christian they were great and not like this and brought it up a semi normal amount at least. But now that I know that I’m not they make it a point to bring it up with everything to try to get me back or something.

girl tbh i’m kind of in the same boat and i still say grace at the dinner table it’s just not that big of a deal. if you don’t believe in it, it’s just a way of showing gratitude that you have enough food at a time when many people don’t and thanking the person who prepared it. plus you’ll avoid a fight. you do you but it takes like five seconds. you can even pray to the universe or whatever or even leave God out of it and just generally take a minute to reflect and say thank you

Tbh I don’t because I know they’re playing a game of trying to get me to pray like “why don’t YOU pray. You need to pray anyways.” And it makes me mad
