currently thinking about when i told my students (sophomores mind you) that i had to put my cat down and that’s why i had a sub one day and one of my problem students without missing a beat went “if it makes you feel better my neighbors cat got run over by a lawn mower and died” bc he’s the class clown and wanted to get a laugh and i had to explain to this literal 16 year old that that’s a horrible thing to say to someone and that i hope he remembers this moment so next time someone

he did the next day. in the moment i just moved on bc i would’ve cried so i didn’t approach it but he mentioned it the next day so i was like by the way and explained all that and he did apologize which was good
